Environmental, Health, and Safety Director

Location: Can be based in Glasgow, Kentucky or Benton, Kentucky

Reports to: Vice President, Operations

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary:

3A Composites is a leading manufacturing company specializing in high-quality composite materials for various industries. The EHS Director is a crucial leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the company's comprehensive Environmental, Health, and Safety programs. This role aims to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and promote a culture of safety and health across all levels of the organization. The EHS Director reports to the Vice President of Operations and indirectly manages the EHS Manager in each of our three manufacturing facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership and Policy Development: Develop and implement comprehensive EHS policies and procedures in alignment with regulatory requirements and best practices. Provide strategic leadership in EHS matters, advocating continuous improvement in EHS performance and culture across the company.
  • ESG Metrics and Reporting: Lead the compilation, analysis, and reporting of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics and measures for the division. Complete ESG reporting requirements accurately and on time, enhancing the company's commitment to sustainability.
  • Compliance and Auditing: Conduct internal and external ISO audits, ensuring adherence to international standards for environmental management, occupational health, and safety. Guide the company through audit processes, addressing areas for improvement, and executing corrective actions.
  • Environmental Reporting and Management: Prepare and submit required environmental reports, manage air permit and wastewater regulations, ensuring full compliance with all pertinent environmental regulations.
  • Strategic Planning for EHS Initiatives: Lead the strategic planning for EHS initiatives, setting clear objectives, metrics, and timelines to enhance EHS performance across the company. Oversee the management of EHS programs at all manufacturing facilities, ensuring consistent application and effectiveness.
  • Site Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential environmental, health, or safety hazards. Implement corrective actions promptly to mitigate risks.
  • Culture of Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement in EHS practices, encouraging employee engagement and participation in safety programs. Provide leadership, direction, and mentoring to EHS Managers at each facility, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to achieve their objectives.
  • Legislative and Regulatory Oversight: Stay abreast of new legislation, regulations, and industry trends related to environmental health and safety. Advise senior management on compliance strategies, ensuring the company remains ahead of regulatory changes.
  • Accident and Incident Investigation: Lead the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses, implementing preventive measures to avoid recurrence. Ensure thorough documentation and analysis of each incident to improve safety measures.
  • EHS Data Management and Reporting: Manage the company's EHS data and reporting systems, ensuring accurate and timely submission of all required documents and reports to regulatory agencies.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CSP, CIH) highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in EHS roles within a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership position.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful EHS programs and strategies.
  • Thorough knowledge of EHS regulations and standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support the company's facilities (25%-50%).
