Job Description:

The Agency:

Proudly already the No. 1 Hispanic entertainment and consumer PR agency in the country, the secret to H+M Communication's success for nearly 20 years is a simple one: We enable brands to engage with their target audiences, and specifically Hispanics, by developing PR and culture marketing campaigns that are inclusive, respectful, meaningful, and business-positive and, as a result, create awareness, business impact, and transformative outcomes for our clients. But our success isn't just rooted in our approach to the work. At its core is our talent-rich dream team of PR professionals who seek excellence at every turn.

We proudly represent popular, iconic consumer, entertainment, and culture-first brands - located across the U.S. and the world. Some of our clients include Amazon Music, Amazon Stores, EndemolShine Boomdog, Paramount Pictures, Prime Video, Telemundo Network, Walt Disney Pictures, Warner Bros., and Universal Pictures - just to name a few!

Public relations is at the center of all that we do. We take a 360-degree approach to our work. We bring the right communications mix to our clients to best meet their goals - no matter if that includes media outreach, influencer relations, celebrity partnerships, event production, media buying, and more. We add value to (and are valued by) our clients thanks to our optimal size and agility, our culture-first mindset, our entrepreneurial spirit, our welcoming approach, and our ability to deliver the unexpected.

Our Team:

We're glad to have built a unique employee culture at H+M, and together, we continuously improve as a strong, united, and unstoppable team. In doing so, we're better able to serve our business and our clients while remaining as the PR and culture marketing agency of choice for brands and companies looking to reach Hispanic and multicultural consumers.

Today, our team includes nearly 30 multilingual and ambi-cultural PR experts from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of age demographics, from recent college graduates to industry veterans. With co-headquarters in Los Angeles and Miami, and a focused team in and around New York City, a large percentage of our team members are based in some of the biggest media markets in the U.S. We're proud to also have team members in other leading Hispanic consumer gateway markets like Mexico City and Madrid.

One of the things we value most is the opportunity to work with talented people in highly creative and productive ways. That's why at H+M, we're always inclusive and results oriented, and we're also selective and discerning when it comes to building our dream team and our client roster. The diverse team we've built at H+M includes team members who:

  • Are just starting out in their careers or have heaps of industry and on-the-job experience;
  • Have worked in big and small PR agencies, as freelancers and personal publicists, or in corporate relations or global communications departments;
  • Represent multiple generations, speak one or more languages, are native English speakers or native speakers of another language, and were born here and abroad;
  • Have deep traditional consumer PR, integrated marketing, content creation, and social media experience and/or are well-versed in corporate communications, experiential and influencer marketing, and paid media;
  • Speak with media in Spanish or English, and/or can seamlessly pitch Spanish, English, and bicultural outlets;
  • And, are entertainment industry specialists or jacks (or rather publicists!) of all trades and all industries.

The proof of our effectiveness is in:

  • Our resilience and more than 20-year track record of success;
  • The awards we receive from leading industry organizations;
  • The testimonials we receive from our clients;
  • The expansion of our remits beyond traditional PR and long-standing relationships we've built and maintained with leading brands;
  • And, the quality of our people, the strength of the work we've done, and the success we've achieved as a team.

Together, our team members exemplify our core values of curiosity and continuous learning, solutions and results-driven focus, bravery and fearlessness, respect and collaboration, big thinking and authentic leadership, and quick thinking and responsiveness. Does that sound like you? If so, we invite you to apply to join us!

The Opportunity + Role:

H+M is looking for an Intern to join our dynamic team of professionals who seek to enable our clients to say the right thing, to the right audiences, in the right ways via the right mix of public relations channels in order to achieve the best, most optimal results. The individual who steps into this role, which will span three months, should be a college graduate, be based in either Los Angeles or Miami, and available to work at least four full days (approximately 9 am to 6 pm with a designated lunch break) each week. Additionally, the ideal candidate should be detail-oriented and have excellent time management skills, be able to handle multiple tasks at one time, and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

As an Intern, the individual will help support key activities for each account team, which often include media list development, media monitoring and reporting, media outreach, expense monitoring and reporting, and more, while building important public relations skills. The Intern will work in close partnership with a core set of team members on a set number of clients (approximately three to five) on a regular basis, while having the opportunity to closely collaborate with other team members at all levels across H+M.

While this individual will work remotely from their home office in Los Angeles or Miami, they will have the opportunity to support and staff agency events like movie premieres, press junkets, film screenings, celebrity meet and greets, influencer activations, and more within their hometown market. Overall, this team member may be asked to support and staff about four to six events each month, with some time periods being busier than others based on client needs and more.

Please note that this is a paid position, with candidates receiving an hourly wage for the duration of their internship at H+M. A full-time position is not guaranteed at the end of the internship. However, the primary goal of the internship is to prime the individual for professional success within the public relations industry - ideally with H+M if an open role becomes available and is an optimal fit for the individual and the agency.

Core Responsibilities:

The Intern candidate will be expected to deliver on several primary responsibilities, which may change and evolve based on account responsibilities and client needs. Core responsibilities expected for this position include (but are not limited to) the ones listed below.

Publicity + Communications:
  • Build and refine media lists; confirm and update key media contacts and alert the team of any changes.
  • Secure and compile editorial calendars and identify relevant opportunities for clients.
  • Write media materials including pitches, interview briefing documents, press day schedules, and more.
  • Conduct media and/or influencer outreach in key local markets across the U.S.
  • Contribute with planning and logistics for media events, press briefings, media tours, deskside briefings, media mailers, and more.

  • Help the team's Account Coordinator keep a close eye on specific deadlines and deliverables, and notify team members of key timing and next steps.

Monitoring + Reporting:
  • Regularly monitor for media coverage and social media mentions, and prepare internal and client updates.
  • Help develop project or campaign reports.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings and actively contribute to all conversations and brainstorm sessions.
  • Help support other teams and projects if or as needed.

Requirements:

To be considered for this internship, all candidates must meet the below requirements.

  • Earned a Bachelor's Degree in communications, public relations, marketing, English, or a related field of study from an accredited institution.
  • Be able to work full-time hours of 9 am to 6 pm (with a designated lunch break) at least four days per week throughout the duration of the internship.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills in English and Spanish, being sure that communications are mostly error-free and follow AP style.
  • Has a strong passion for public relations, and wants to learn more about the industry overall.
  • Based in Los Angeles or Miami, and is able to staff and support in-person events on a regular basis at night, on weekends, and on holidays, if needed.
