The Superintendent oversees the construction job site. This includes labor, scheduling, budget, quality control, safety, and management of subcontractors. On larger sites there may be more than one Superintendent with separate specific scopes of work. The Superintendent works directly with the Project Manager, but will also work with Project Engineers, Safety personnel and Senior Project Managers.
Qualifications and Required Skills
Experience in construction with at least 10 years of carpentry, Foreman or Project Engineer experience
A four-year engineering or construction management degree or five years of applied experience in construction management is required
Must be able to mentor, instruct and oversee up to 40 individuals daily
Must be OSHA 30 certified
SWPPP certifications are desired
Must be certified in telehandler, skidsteer, scissor lift and boom lift operation
Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam and Procore
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical
Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts preconstruction tasks of:
Reviewing the project documents to include plans and specifications.
Reviewing all subcontracts
Reviewing all purchase orders
Planning all site requirements
Helping order required supplies and materials
Generating a project schedule
Understands all scopes of work and knows the budget for each scope
Tracks job site production daily and reports production at least weekly
Mentors and trains Carpenters, Foreman, and Project Engineers
Maintains project schedule
Conducts quality control of all trades and ongoing work
Works with Safety personnel to ensure work is being conducted safely and the job site is free of unneeded hazards
Ensures job site remains orderly, clean and organized
Works with Equipment and Maintenance personnel to track and maintain all company owned and rented equipment
Coordinates and executes weekly subcontractor meeting
Assists Safety personnel in weekly safety meeting
Reviews and submits employee timecards bi-weekly
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
May assist with performing carpentry duties
May perform housekeeping duties such as sweeping, clearing debris, and trash removal
May assist in demolition tasks as needed
Once certified, may use a telehandler forklift or skidsteer to complete tasks
Use a company vehicle to pick up or deliver materials
Any other tasks provided by Safety personnel or Superintendents
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
This position is strenuous. Applicants must be able to lift and carry heavy objects. Applicants must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Activities will include climbing ladders or scaffolding, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling and standing for long periods of time. Applicants must have full dexterity of the neck, back, arms and legs. Applicants must be able to see clearly and recognize small details. Applicants must be able to sit in an office environment and use a tablet, keyboard and mouse. Applicants must be able to communicate by phone and text messaging.
