Job Description:

The Sr Energy Efficiency Technician position provides a diverse workload that utilizes your existing expertise while challenging your problem-solving skills and requiring you to learn new things and take on new skills every day.

This position is for an experienced team member skilled in designing, deploying, and maintaining monitoring systems for field and lab evaluations of building systems and equipment. Specific job responsibilities include:

Supporting planning and conducting research projects. This includes:
  • Advising on monitoring and evaluation (M&V) and test plans.
  • Producing labor and equipment cost estimates.
  • Specifying and purchasing instrumentation and equipment.
  • Coordinating between scientists, contractors, and homeowners on monitoring activities.

Supporting performance testing of both static and dynamic systems in houses, laboratories, and laboratory houses such as:
  • Programming and maintaining data acquisition and control systems.
  • Calibrating instrumentation and supporting installation and commissioning.
  • Managing and analyzing large datasets.
  • Regular review and verification of data accuracy and integrity.

Overseeing Frontier Energy's monitoring system such as:
  • Continually improving and developing new data acquisition strategies and methods.
  • Maintaining an automated data aggregation and visualization server.
  • Maintaining the operation and communication of individual lab and field data loggers.

Qualifications

The Davis office is close-knit and dedicated team. Depending on the situation, you may be called on to work collaboratively or independently. In either case, you will need to manage your time and be honest with yourself and the team whether you need assistance to complete work on time and within budget. You must be unafraid to ask questions, request help, admit your mistakes, and accept help and correction when offered.
  • 5 years of relevant work experience specifying, and deploying instrumentation and monitoring equipment in lab and field evaluations.

• Proficiency in computer programming, particularly Python.
• Experience with Linux.
• Experience with serial and TCP communication protocols, such as Modbus and BACnet.
• Experience with IT systems, including switches, routers, cell modems, and VPNs.
• Experience with servers and cloud services, such as FTP, VPN, VNC, and Azure Data Explorer.
  • Willing to travel to test sites (potentially overnight).
  • Willing to work from the Davis facilities Monday through Friday.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and sit and stand for extended periods of time.
