Personal Secretary for Aging Independent Researcher
  • Please do not apply unless you are prepared to work 3 to 4 days per week onsite in Guerneville, CA (own transportation).
  • I have been researching and developing educational programs for over 50 years. As I age, I find I could use help and support with all aspects of my work. This includes everything from making coffee and assisting with managing personal assets to organizing ongoing research activities associated with the nonprofit organization, LO*OP Center, Inc. This is a contract position, not full time employment, starting at $20/hr. The first month will be a provisional period to find out whether we get along well or not.

Role Description

This is a contract hybrid role for a Personal Secretary. The Personal Secretary will provide personal assistance, perform clerical tasks, provide administrative assistance, and ensure effective communication. Some work from home is acceptable. Tasks vary from transcribing audio tracks, editing raw video, preparing spreadsheets, and filing paperwork to assisting in writing grant proposals and conducting original research. Previous experience is less important than flexibility, commitment to self-improvement which may require study and practice beyond working hours, and an appetite for continuous challenge.

Qualifications

  • Personal and administrative assistance skills (high tolerance for chaos)
  • Ability to negotiate and prioritize tasks followed by meeting agreed upon deadlines
  • High level of computer literacy including familiarity with various operating systems, applications and online platforms
  • Well developed clerical and communication skills
  • Willingness to perform routine or boring tasks cheerfully
  • Readiness to honestly identify knowledge gaps and motivation to acquire missing skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to recruit and manage volunteers (for nonprofit activities)
  • Comfortable in loosely structured or emerging contexts
