Job Description:

Position Purpose:


This position will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining industrial control systems for our diverse range of clients while working closely with project teams.


Essential Functions:


• Support the execution of automation, control systems, industrial robots, and various industrial projects.


• Develop control systems that include, but are not limited to, electrical applications, pneumatics, hydraulic systems, and robotic programming.


• Collaborate with project managers, mechanical designers, and clients to understand requirements and develop comprehensive control system designs.


• Collaborate with the design team to integrate safety features while ensuring compliance with OSHA and industry standards.


• Create and review electrical schematics (AutoCAD Electrical), control panel layouts, and system architecture.


• Adhere to industrial electrical standards, codes, and best practices throughout the design process as required.


• Stay abreast of industry advancements and changes in safety standards to continuously improve and update safety features in automation solutions.


• Conduct safety risk assessment meetings and system testing with the design team and client(s) to identify potential hazards and implement appropriate safety measures.


• Document and communicate safety design decisions, methodologies, project records, and validations in compliance with relevant safety standards, guidelines, and best practices.


• Develop and implement PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) software for industrial automation systems.


• Program and troubleshoot PLCs from various manufacturers.


• Work with programmers to define mutually agreed upon best practices and expectations for coding.


• Program and integrate industrial robots of various manufacturers.


• Ensure seamless communication and coordination between robots and other control devices, specifically PLCs and other auxiliary equipment as required.


• Specify, select, and configure instrumentation and control devices such as sensors, actuators, and other components.


• Ensure compatibility and integration of control devices with the overall system.


• Ensure component selections are to clients' specifications and direct and timely communication to clients of any deviations when required.


• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new control technologies from vendors for the purpose of informing the machine design team of alternative ways of solving design challenges.


• Lead the integration of control systems and industrial robots into existing or new industrial processes.


• Assist team with occasional field wiring/plumbing, panel building, conduit runs, and training to support overall project deadlines as necessary.


• Prepare detailed technical documentation, including user manuals, system manuals, and as-built documentation.


• Generate thorough Bill of Materials of purchase items required for each project.


• Work with vendors to generate quotes for necessary purchases for each project.


• Provide technical support during the installation and startup phases of projects.


• Other duties as assigned.


Education and Training


• Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field required; Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.


Minimum Qualifications


• Minimum of 3 years' experience designing and programming industrial controls systems.


• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.


• Familiarity with building control panels.


• Familiarity with wiring including, but not limited to, layouts, labeling, and cable management.


• Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical Toolset.


• Ability to program PLCs and understand programming languages.


• Ability to program and design HMIs.


• Ability to program robots.


• Familiarity with plumbing, valves, and schematics, especially SMC product lines.


• Understanding of industrial communication networks and protocols, ethernet networks, and IP addresses.


• Strong mathematic skills with the ability to understand physics, engineering, and statistics.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Outlook.


• Familiarity with Virtual Machines.


• Familiarity with 3D CAD modeling and other PC programming.
