Overview

The Baker Lab is recruiting for a highly motivated Technician B for the Division of Oncology within the Department of Pediatrics.

Albert Einstein College of Medicine, founded in 1955, is one of the nation's premier institutions for medical education, basic research and clinical investigation. A full-time faculty of some 2,000 conducts research, teaches, and delivers health care in every major biomedical specialty. The college has some 730 medical students, 193 Ph.D. students, 106 MD/Ph.D. students and 275 postdoctoral fellows.

Responsibilities

The research technician for this job will be responsible for assisting with tissue culture (human derived cancer cells), molecular biology (PCR, DNA/RNA preps, etc.), cell biology (westerns, cell staining, etc.), and lab duties. They will assist with zebrafish experiments, including sorting, genetic manipulations and drug screening as per protocol. The Pl will supervise. They will also be responsible for assisting with treatments and welfare evaluations.

The person will:

• perform mainly simple or occasional moderately complex technical procedures

• require only occasional guidance

• may be responsible for occasionally ordering supplies and equipment for project as experiments require

• may modify experimental protocols*

• occasionally analyze and interpret data

• may make rare written contributions to papers and grant proposals.*

• An understanding of scientific literature and limited understanding of research goals and rationale is required.

Qualifications

• Required to have at least a Bachelor's Degree in a related science or equivalent skills or experience.

Preferred:

• Familiarity with basic molecular biology techniques such as RT-PCR and Western blotting

• Experience with making solutions and pH'ing solutions.

• Prior experience with zebrafish preferred but not required

• The ideal candidate will have superior written and verbal communication skill as well as the ability to work well as part of a team.
