Role: MS-CC Director of Cyberinfrastructure Programs

The Minority Serving - Cyberinfrastructure Consortium (MS-CC) envisions a transformational

partnership to promote advanced cyberinfrastructure capabilities at Historically Black Colleges and

Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs). This will be accomplished through a variety of community-focused programming centered on workforce development, collaboration, research, and building capacity among institutions. The MS-CC is currently funded by National Science Foundation grant awards.

The MS-CC is searching for an enthusiastic, collaborative and dynamic leader to direct its programmatic activities focused on Cyberinfrastructure, with the primary focus areas being the Proof-of Concept Grant (PoCG) program and Cyberinfrastructure Facilitation Services." This MS-CC Director of Cyberinfrastructure Programs will collaborate with faculty, staff, and students at HBCUs and TCUs to develop and implement a strategic plan for the PoCG program. with the primary goal of making a significant, positive difference in the awareness, access, and use of cyberinfrastructure resources for research at HBCUs and TCUs. The Director will also work with MS-CC's Climate Science Program staff to develop and implement a cohesive strategy that advances the full portfolio of the MS-CC's cyberinfrastructure programs.

The Director of Cyberinfrastructure Programs will work under the general direction of the MS-CC Principal Investigator and Senior Director of Program Operations at Internet2. The Director of Cyberinfrastructure Programs will be integral in ensuring the MS-CC's Proof-of Concept Grant program is implemented successfully with a focus on efficiency, effectiveness and scalability. The Director will lead and support the MS-CC Technical and Cyberinfrastructure Facilitation staff and will identify and coordinate additional resources, as needed, to support the objectives of each of the PoCG campuses. In addition, the Director will advance additional CI-related collaboration opportunities between HBCU and TCU leaders and other relevant organizations that support CI services and resources across the national research and education community and ecosystem.
Specific responsibilities include:
  • The development and implementation of strategic initiatives, engaging primary stakeholders, subject matter experts and collaborators and defining program metrics
  • Effectively articulating the strategic value of cyberinfrastructure to the HBCU and TCU communities.
  • Translation of technical concepts into meaningful use cases that apply to various audiences
  • Leveraging network and knowledge of cyberinfrastructure to identify synergistic collaboration opportunities that can support and advance data-driven research and education through the effective use of IT.
  • Strong commitment to improving access and inclusion within higher education technology.
  • Organizing and leading multi-institutional collaborations and projects
  • Management of a minimum of three (3) MS-CC program staff
  • Ability to travel 5-7 days per month


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, data science or other relevant STEM or data-driven field of study.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience facilitating the use of CI resources for research and/or education programs at an institution of higher education, and a minimum 3 years experience coordinating CI Facilitation teams and processes.
  • Working knowledge of a variety of CI strategies and services for research and education, including those for CI workforce development, and whether operated local or external to a higher education campus.
  • Well-developed connections with NSF-funded CI services and resources across the national ecosystem, and experience liaising connections with these.
  • Working knowledge of CI-relevant funding and/or demonstrated success developing or reviewing CI-focused proposals .
  • Excellent communication skills, including listening, analysis, and synthesizing; strong writing, oral presentation and teaching skills; an ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner; and a demonstrated capacity to work effectively in both face-to-face as well as remote (telepresence) contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience leading collaborative teams and partnerships; good organizational and team facilitation skills, specifically when all team members are remote and geographically dispersed.
  • Familiarity with campus cyberinfrastructure, including but not limited to broadband, networking, security, data storage and management, cloud computing, and high performance computing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Project Management Tools such as Monday.com.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • HBCU or TCU alumnus or experience working with HBCUs and/or TCUs
  • Experience developing strategies to facilitate the integration of CI by campuses, researchers, and/or educators at HBCUs, TCUs, other MSIs, and/or smaller or primarily-undergraduate institutions.
  • Master's degree (or equivalent) preferred, with data-intensive research emphasis.
  • Experience managing remote staff with varying skill sets
  • Familiarity or experience with federal funding opportunities relevant to CI at minority-serving campuses


As a full-time employee, you will be eligible to participate in Internet2's employee benefits program effective on your start date in accordance with the terms and conditions of each plan. The program currently includes medical, dental, life, vision and disability insurances, a health spending account program, sick time, vacation time and a tax deferred retirement plan. The salary range for this position is $135,000-$150,000.
