A postdoctoral scientist position in Bioinformatics and Quantitative Biology is now open in Dr. Ebrahimi's laboratory at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute in San Antonio. We are seeking qualified candidates to contribute to collaborative projects focusing on viral-host interactions, cancer genomics, and evolution. These projects are interdisciplinary and will require the development and application of bioinformatic and quantitative biology methodologies for the analysis of diverse datasets, encompassing genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data from viruses, hosts, and tumors.


Texas Biomed provides unique research and training opportunities for scientists, including access to exceptional resources such as BSL4, SNPRC (Southwest National Primate Research Center), a vigorous infectious disease program on HIV, malaria, schistosomiasis, Ebola, Zika, hepatitis C and TB, and outstanding imaging, computational, and sequencing facilities. Texas Biomed faculty have adjunct appointments at two universities in San Antonio (UTSA and UTHSCSA), which provide a wide range of additional training and career development opportunities for scientists at Texas Biomed.


Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Quantitative Biology, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in developing and utilizing bioinformatic and quantitative biology tools for the analysis of large and diverse biological datasets.
  • Experience with next generation sequencing and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in coding using one or more programing languages/platforms, including Python, R, or MATLAB.
  • General knowledge of biology, biological data, and biological databases
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
  • Experience in deep learning and machine learning techniques desired.
