Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY 


Manages the marketing, communications and public relations activities for an operating company. Acts as the unit’s primary marketing and communications official, responsible for media relations, marketing communications, corporate philanthropy communications and communications support for capital projects, business unit operations and advocacy efforts. Works closely with enterprise marketing and communications team on the company’s internal communications, brand and digital and visual communications to ensure consistency across the company. Works closely with the operating company management team to provide strategic communications counsel and marketing, communications and corporate affairs materials and support for local initiatives.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 



  • Collaborates with enterprise marketing and communications team on the strategic direction and messaging for marketing, public relations and digital and visual communications to support business unit communications needs.

  • Works closely with the operating company president and grid development, local government and community affairs, state governmental affairs, regulatory affairs and stakeholder relations teams, among others, to review regulatory, business and operating issues that may require communications support.

  • Oversees local operating company's media relations strategy development, implementation and related efforts, consistent with corporate approach; acts as the local operating company's media spokesperson, responding to media inquiries, building ongoing relationships and managing strategy related to operating company media relations; manages media relations during a crisis or reputation impacting environment.

  • Provides feedback and guidance to corporate internal communications initiatives, contributing content, ideas and perspectives for company Intranet to help drive effective communications our corporate values, direction and performance.

  • Provides suggestions/recommendations about input for social media postings.

  • Plans, develops and executes operating company marketing and communications plan, strategies, tactics and content consistent with operating company's goals and corporate approach; identifies needs for marketing and communications outreach and develops plans and materials to address the needs.

  • Responsible for working with marketing & communications colleagues and outside vendors, as needed, to develop and produce communications materials, including presentations, executive communications, videos, print materials, newsletters, advertising, talking points and messaging documents to support business unit activities.

  • Works with corporate colleagues and helps support the company's charitable giving, representing the company as needed in interactions with nonprofits in the local operating company service territory.

  • Oversees the local management of communications, marketing and public relations activities to ensure consistent messaging both within the operating company service territory and with corporate activities; collaborates with corporate team on overall strategy and direction; manages administration of budgets and resources to carry out desired activities.


REQUIREMENTS



  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in Public Relations, Marketing or Communications.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in managing budgets and direct reports.

  • Direct experience in advertising and philanthropic activities preferred.

  • Proven track record leading teams, providing communications counsel, managing projects and executing on communications deliverables.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Understands the importance of positioning, platform, brand and voice of the organization.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with management, colleagues and individuals inside and outside the Company.

  • Excellent writing skills.

  • Ability to maintain composure and exhibit professionalism while contending with tense situations; significant experience in crisis management.

  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple efforts, tasks and/or projects concurrently. 

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products. 

  • Attention to detail and focus on quality delivery. 

  • Possess sound analytical problem solving and documentation skills.

  • Ability to travel on a regular basis.
