This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.

The data engineer is responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of the database structures. Conducts analysis, creates system specifications, develops, tests and implements engineering, scientific and business applications, operating systems, and file/database servers. Utilizes existing or new technology in the automation of processes. Evaluates software packages and provides recommendations to management.


Responsibilities


Designs, codes, tests documents, implements and maintain database utilities. (30%) Performs database analysis and design reviews under supervision. (20%) Assists in the research and fact-finding to develop or modify database structures. (20%) Provides support for vendor-developed database implementation and periodic maintenance releases as required under supervision. (10%) Provides technical input to assist in development of project planning under supervision. (10%) Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (10%)


Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science or related technical field or equivalent work experience. (Typically four years of additional related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.) Masters in data science or related technical field preferred. A minimum of two years additional direct related technical experience is required for the data engineer I level. Four years additional direct related technical experience is required for the data engineer 3. Educational experience in database administration or systems analysis on one of the following or any combination: Oracle 11, MS SQL 2008, DB2 for mainframe v9, DB2 LUW v9 products. Basic understanding of how to do performance tuning of enterprise level applications. Effective oral and written communication skills utilizing your ability to work with other database administrators to learn and grow in your abilities. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
