Position Details:



Summary of Duties:


Under general supervision, performs basic standardized serologic, virology, and prion disease diagnostic assays. Records and reports test results. Maintains records, quality control tracking and writes/revises Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Assists higher level personnel in standard serologic testing used for public health, animal health, and safety issues. Assists in the maintenance of laboratory equipment and production of reagents, buffers and mammalian cell and bacterial cultures. Assists with the decontamination and disposal of biohazardous laboratory wastes. Assists with pre-analytical processing of submitted specimens for serologic/virologic assays. Eligibility and understanding of BSL-2/BSL-3 laboratory safety guidelines and work environment is required.





Required Qualifications:




  • A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, biochemistry, zoology, or a related science; OR equivalent education/experience.




  • Ability to work occasional overtime on weekdays and weekends.




  • Must meet eligibility requirements for working in a BioSafety Level-2 (BSL-2) environment. See the following link for more information: https://www.cdc.gov/training/QuickLearns/biosafety/






Preferred Qualifications:




  • College level Microbiology coursework.




  • Experience handling biological specimens.




  • Experience in a medical, healthcare, and/or veterinary laboratory setting.




  • We recommend obtaining rabies vaccine within 6 months of hire.




  • We recommend obtaining Hepatitis B vaccination.

Monthly Salary:



$4,282.00 to $5,756.00 | Range 50 (Steps A-M) | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
