Refugee Youth Project SpecialistDescription/Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing coordination assistance to the Refugee Youth Program on site at three different Baltimore City Schools. Responsibilities include liaising with BCCC Refugee Program Manager and on site staff, coordinating on site activities, and managing volunteers and instructors.


Programs are after school and can run until 6:30pm, the RYP Specialist is expected to travel and attend after school programming.

Responsibilities/Duties


Essential Job Functions:



  • Oversee day to day operations, and travel to Refugee Youth Project (RYP) sites Assist in maintenance of databases for grant reporting purposes

  • Manage social media platforms including online blog, Facebook, and Instagram

  • accounts

  • Manage recruitment, training, and integration of community volunteers into the classroom, supervising and utilizing their presence effectively

  • Maintain a positive learning environment

  • Ensure the safety of students at all times; adhere to all CDC and City School protocols regarding Covid-19

  • Maintain the organization and cleanliness of classrooms and other spaces

  • Maintain punctuality, attendance, and provide notification to supervising staff when appropriate

  • Attend trainings, events, and meetings for after school programs (occasionally outside of regular hours)

  • Comply with various federal, state, and local laws that apply to and regulate responsibilities

  • Ensure delivery of supplies to RYP sites Other duties as required






Scope of Responsibility:


Knows the formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures as it relates to student advancement for the division and the college at large. Is sensitive to the interrelationship of both people and functions within the department.






Decision Making:


On a regular basis, exercises judgment and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people and quality of services within the functional area.






Communication:


Exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate. Require good oral and written communication skills.






Physical Requirements:



  • Walking and standing for extended periods of time. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arms in any direction.

  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.

  • Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal range.

  • Ability to move about.

Required Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's degree.


  • 1-3 years of professional work experience.


  • Experience working with youth with limited English skills preferred. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail required.


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience working in a multi-cultural environment a plus.


  • Experience working with and supervising volunteers a plus, but not required.
