POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the compliance function reporting directly to the Chief Compliance Officer (" CCO ") the Deputy Compliance Officer (" DCO ") position is globally responsible for the oversight of Illumina's Regional Compliance Officers (" RCOs ") who along with the CCO and DCO own the anti-corruption compliance program globally for Illumina. The DCO ensures that the global anti-corruption compliance program is aligned with the 7 Effective Elements of a compliance (plus the 8th Element from the UK Bribery Act) program as well as the companywide compliance program. This position is responsible for the development, improvement, and day to day activities/management of the RCOs with direction from the CCO. This position is also responsible for implementing anti-corruption compliance standards and procedures and ensuring that these standards are communicated and institutionalized throughout the world. The DCO serves as a subject matter expert on anti-corruption topics or functions. This position requires the ability to be a business partner. This position will collaborate with the CCO and Illumina Corporate Compliance Committee to ensure alignment with corporate compliance objectives. The DCO will also need to team with the Associate Director of Investigations (" ADI ") responsible for anti-corruption investigations when necessary.

RESPONSIBLITIES:


  • Ensure the RCOs develop, implement and execute an anti-corruption risk assessment including ranking of risks and identification of risk mitigation plans for Illumina. Include compliance risks associated with local anti-corruption laws and regulations.

  • Ensure the RCOs align the anti-corruption compliance program with the 7 Effective Elements of a compliance (plus the 8th from the UK Bribery Act) program and the global Illumina Corporate Compliance program.

  • Communicate compliance related information regarding the above-mentioned risks with Illumina commercial leads.

  • Assist the RCOs in developing and implementing anti-corruption policies and procedures designed to ensure full compliance with legal, regulatory, accounting and contractual requirements.

  • Ensure the RCOs develop, distribute and deliver effective training and communications in support of Illumina's Corporate Compliance Program, including language localizations as appropriate.

  • Aid the CCO and RCOs in promoting awareness of Illumina's Corporate Compliance Program.

  • Periodically aid the CCO in measuring the effectiveness of the compliance program to develop and implement appropriate recommendations.

  • Work with Internal Audit to monitor compliance with compliance policies through the use of periodic audits.

  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders- HR, Internal Audit, Finance, Commercial, Global Trade Compliance, and Supply Chain to identify, mitigate and resolve anti-corruption compliance matters.

  • Lead cross-functional project teams as needed to implement corporate compliance initiatives.

  • Manage the Associate Director of Channel Management (" ADCM ") ensure the execution of an appropriate due diligence process, channel management partner training, and annual certifications.

  • Ensure the ADCM builds, manages, and administers a Channel Partner database for Illumina's Channel Partners.

  • Ensure that the ADCM coordinates due diligence on distributors, agents and other Third-Party Intermediaries, including outside service providers and software vendors for Illumina's Channel Partners

  • Assist with compliance and ethics related investigations, inspections and audits in coordination with the CCO and ADI. Follow up on anti-corruption compliance and ethics related investigations to ensure recommendations have been appropriately and timely implemented.

  • Coordinate and complete report activities to the CCO on a quarterly basis regarding anti-corruption compliance initiatives, training, and results of compliance evaluations.

  • Participate with the CCO in the development of Illumina's annual Corporate Compliance budget ensure department expenditures remain within the budgeted expectations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or required to help ensure an effective Illumina Corporate Compliance Program.

REQUIREMENTS :


  • Strong sense of integrity, business transaction transparency and the ability to balance business interests with the need to exercise independent judgment.

  • Thorough knowledge of Anticorruption compliance, including The 7 Effective Elements of a Compliance Program as detailed in the Federal Sentencing Guidelines (plus the 8th Element from the UK Bribery Act).

  • Organized, energetic, flexible and self-motivated, with an analytical mind. Able to gather, analyze, evaluate facts, and reach appropriate conclusions. Able to work independently, often without assistance or on-site supervision.

  • Strong time management and document management skills with a fine attention to detail.

  • Willing and able to travel (up to 25%) including International.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels of the company, both orally and in writing is essential for this role.

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office software. Emphasis on excel and SharePoint

  • Strong diplomatic skills, patience, and the proven ability to find creative, business-friendly solutions.

  • Strong people and customer service skills.

  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships within Illumina. Able to gain the confidence, respect and trust of Illumina Business Units through attributes such as professionalism and positive attitude.

  • Is respected throughout the organization by individuals.

  • Is sought out by management for input on Anticorruption compliance matters.

  • Excellent project management and process improvement skills.

  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule (able to meet the requirements of the position as needed, including ability to work evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice)

  • Identifies Anticorruption compliance risks throughout the year and brings those to the attention of the Chief Compliance Officer.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION :


  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 20 years of related experience, with 12+ years of Management experience.

  • Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree preferred

  • Experience in a biotech or life sciences company strongly preferred

  • Broad knowledge of all areas within corporate sub-function or a function within an operation.

  • Typically has depth of technical knowledge in function derived from experience in non-management and middle management roles.

The estimated base salary range for the Deputy Compliance Officer role based in the United States of America is: $220,500 - $330,700. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
