Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. has a contingent job opportunity for a full-time Shipboard Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (AC&R) Mechanical Technician II in Norfolk, VA.

Summary: The Shipboard Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (AC&R) Mechanical Technician II will support to Mid Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) Code 252.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for various assessments, inspections, and fleet technical assistance as tasked via separate correspondence.

  • Provide technical assistance, assessment, inspections, corrective actions, and groom support as tasked.

  • Some of the equipment/services to be supported include but are not limited to the following: Centrifugal Air Conditioning Plants, Reciprocating Air Conditioning Plants, Ships Service Refrigeration System, Chilled Water Pumps, High Pressure Air Compressors (HPAC's), Low Pressure Air Compressors (LPAC's), Medium Pressure Air Compressors (MPAC's), Weapon Systems Air Compressors (WSHPAC's), Emergency Breathing Air Compressors (EBAC's), SCBA Compressors, Deballast Compressors, LP/HP Dehydrators.

  • Conduct cold/hot checks to determine equipment condition and identify parameters that are out of specification. Observe operation of the equipment by ship's force to witness the full range of performance where possible.

  • Utilize appropriate measuring equipment to obtain data for evaluation.

  • The contractor shall assist with the preparation and adjudication of Departures from Specifications (DFS) and Engineering Support Requests (ESRs), and review of Work Items and Process Control Procedures (PCPs) when required.

  • Evaluate findings of the cold and operational checks and make adjustments and repairs to the maximum extent possible during the time available.

  • Provide written visit debrief/reports to the SME upon completion of each ship visit.

  • Attend conferences, seminars, etc. and report results to the SME as required.

  • Provide on the job training to Ship's Force (S/F) during shipboard evolutions.

  • May require travel 10% or greater.

  • May require overtime.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of nine (9) years of general hands-on mechanical experience with US Navy HM&E equipment

  • Minimum of five (5) years specialized hands-on experience in the troubleshooting, assessment, operation, repair and maintenance of US Naval Ships' to include: Centrifugal Air Conditioning Plants, Reciprocating Air Conditioning Plants, Ships Service Refrigeration System, Chilled Water Pumps, High Pressure Air Compressors (HPAC's), Low Pressure Air Compressors (LPAC's), Medium Pressure Air Compressors (MPAC's), Weapon Systems Air Compressors (WSHPAC's), Emergency Breathing Air Compressors (EBAC's), SCBA Compressors, Deballast Compressors, LP/HP Dehydrators.

  • Must have recent (within 24 months) hands-on experience with the respective equipment to support.

  • Must have an EPA Universal Certification to handle/work with refrigerant.

  • Demonstrate an ability to interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics and plans and the ability as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to troubleshoot, analyze and provide distance support for listed equipment.

  • Must be knowledgeable in interpreting, reviewing and applying work specifications, auxiliary system maintenance standards/practices, repair procedures and technical documentation.

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, inspections, visit processes and reporting methods for visits

  • Demonstrate regularly using accepted current instrumentation for diagnosing equipment.

  • Demonstrate ability for interpreting ship's drawings, wiring diagrams and control schematics as required to accomplish assigned tasks.

  • Familiarity with JFMM guidelines and policies.

  • Comply with NAVSEA standard items.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.

  • Functional knowledge of MS Office Suite.

  • Familiarity with ILS-LOGICOM and experience with TA&R and Fleet Scheduling Center (FSC) is a plus.

  • Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, all applicants must be U.S. Citizens.

  • Must possess or ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance

ADA Notations:

  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes up to 50 lbs.

  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions.

  • Job may require bending, stooping, lifting.

  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.

  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.

  • May require wearing a respirator.

  • Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions.

  • Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States
