Sr. Investment Analyst at CITY OF MEMPHIS in Memphis, Tennessee

Job Description:

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the general supervision of the Investment Manager and is responsible for assisting in achieving overall cash management objectives and objectives that are related to defined benefit plan, defined contribution plan, and Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) trust fund. Performs analysis of the City of Memphis’ cash flows. Assembles and reviews data to complete statistical and qualitative analysis and research. Analyzes investment performance and develops materials for senior management. Executes settlement of trades and transfers of funds regarding the investment of City of Memphis’ operating cash, bond proceeds, and pension cash using portfolio management techniques in accordance with the City of Memphis’ investment policy. Communicates with bankers, brokers, and dealers to take competitive bids utilizing information available through the financial data systems. Balances and reconciles City of Memphis’ operating cash daily to determine idle cash available for investing. Notifies the depository bank and the custody bank(s) of the daily transactions and daily records of city investments. Prepares various financial reports regarding City’s investment holdings and compliance reporting. Executes wire transfers utilizing the Federal wire system regarding large City of Memphis expenditures as approved. Coordinates with the City’s depository bank and custody banks on the investments related matters. Utilizes portfolio management software to manage in-house cash. Responds to inquiries from internal and external customers. Responsible for cross-checking and processing money manager fee invoices and maintaining records of expenses related to City investments. Serves as an ex-officio member of several City of Memphis committees, including but not limited to Pension Investment Committee, Operating Cash Investment Committee, OPEB Trust Fund Investment Committee, and Defined Contribution Plan Investment Committee.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires the use of general office equipment, such as a personal computer and telephone and the ability to lift and carry objects such as files and reports weighing up to 50 lbs. 


 


TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed in an office environment. Some off-site meetings and occasional travel may be required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field and four (4) years professional experience in investment and cash management including working experience in municipal securities; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must have working experience using Microsoft Office products. Specific experiences in investment securities related to banking or financial services experience preferred Banking or financial services experience regarding investment securities is preferred. 


The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
