Manufacturing Engineering Intern at Vallourec in Houston, Texas

Job Description:

Our plant manufactures north of 500,000 joints of pipe a year and each joint needs to have ends cut for squareness (approx. 1 million cuts). The main project for this intern will be focused on improving tool life at the cutoff line. Tool life has decreased by about 60% from peak values in 2020. Currently we get less than 15 cuts per tool at $17/tool and well over half a million in losses. 

PROJECTS:

• Validating and monitoring KPIs


• Benchmarking between operators


• Identifying sources of variation


• Eliminating sources of variation


• Designing experiments to compare different vendors tools.


• Work directly with vendor on addressing tool defects.


• Providing recommendation for primary supplier based on summer results.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Focus on Mechanical, Industrial or equivalent engineering degree.


• Proficient in Excel.


• Experience with other statistical software such as Minitab is a plus.
