Position Summary:

We are looking for a sharp, creative, highly-motivated Digital Producer to join the Discovery Channel team. The Producer will be primarily responsible for implementing the creative vision for the Discovery Channel websites, social accounts, building audience and engagement, tracking analytics and growth, seamlessly integrating social media with the broadcast and maintaining the voice of our networks in the digital space. He or she will produce, maintain and manage up to a dozen or more projects at a time while directing implementation by managing efforts of matrixed writer, technical, design and product teams.

The ideal candidate will think strategically to manage key Discovery franchises, develop content through an established brand filter, collaborate with video teams and editors to produce compelling video and content optimized for digital and social platforms, and have strong writing and editing skills. The abilities to operate strategically, multi-task, manage projects against tight deadlines, and proof one's own creative outputs are a must.


1. Conceptualize and implement overall content strategy per project: writes, builds and maintains online content and delegates projects and tasks to team members and service groups
2. Act as centralized point for cross-platform promotion and engagement strategy across O&O sites, platforms, and social networks for Discovery series and tentpole franchises
3. Create exciting social/digital media content to build and engage followers and audiences
4. Track and respond to social conversation before, during and after shows
5. Pitch and help produce social segments for both on-air, digital and social programming
6. Evaluate social media results and performance to improve performance and deliver on expected traffic, branding, and engagement goals
7. Plan overarching content distribution plans, including daily, weekly schedules for social media platforms
8. Collaborate with network groups including marketing, publicity, advertising sales, branded entertainment, production, programming and scheduling
9. Stay current with latest technology and software applications to maintain high level of content/experience that keeps pace with audience expectations
10. Monitor consumer feedback, analyze site traffic metrics and researches audience trends to inform appropriate DCI departments and determine online editorial content
11. Develop interactive/game experiences to supplement network programming
12. Works with sales, analytics, marketing, product and press teams to best optimize revenue on campaigns, sponsorship opportunities and on social
13. Coordinate and work closely with ad sales and marketing teams to maximize revenue opportunities and develop new, unique sponsorship opportunities
14. Create sponsorship opportunities for Ad Sales clients. If sponsored, work with the client and Ad Sales to create high-quality web content that supports the client's goals
15. Ensures that all editorial content published to the Web site(s) has been cleared legally and meets the filter of the Channel brand. Candidate must be articulate, detail-oriented, and have strong organizational and administrative management skills.


* 5+ years' experience in online/interactive media or equivalent
* Must be proficient on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc. as well as have comprehensive understanding of the social and broader digital media landscape
* Experience in television within networks, development, production, or broader entertainment is a plus
* Must possess the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and be able to make decisions on the fly
* Great communications skills, a can-do attitude, and collaborative working style are vital
* Evening and weekend work may be required
* Proficiency with MS Office suite, online tracking/reporting tools (Omniture), online content management and publishing systems
* Video programming/production/development experience a plus
* Strong track record of growing social accounts and audience development
* Must have the desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive environment, while having superior attention to detail; focused
* Must be an innovative thinker, while having experience with creative writing, content curation, content mix development
* Savviness with working and collaborating alongside multiple stakeholders and share ownership of projects
* Very adept at building relationships (internal/network and external/vendor-sales) and evangelizing for interactive platform products and ideas that are the right fit for the brand and the digital business
* Must have the legal right to work in the US
