Alaska Marine Lines is a marine transportation company providing barge service to and from Alaska and Hawaii. We offer twice weekly service to Southeast Alaska, weekly service to Central Alaska, seasonal service to Western Alaska, and bi-weekly service to Hawaii.
SUMMARY: Perform complex mechanical repairs on heavy duty equipment such as high capacity (50+ton) lift trucks, trucks, tractors, power generation sets, loaders, compressors, freight moving equipment and product transfer systems. This opening is on the swing shift of Tuesday - Friday 2:00pm - 12:30am with a lunch break.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 4 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. 2 year vocational/technical degree in Diesel Technology is preferred. Welding certification. Experience and considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of various types of heavy equipment, lift trucks and other driven equipment and tools.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid driver’s license and good driving record is preferred. Must be eligible to apply and be issued a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) Able to meet forklift certification requirements (training available).
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands and fingers to hold, handle, objects, tools, or to key data entry; reach with hands and arms to clean, spray or perform repairs; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl with legs and knees; and talk or hear while communicating using telephones or radios. The employee frequently is required to walk and climb or balance. Employee is regularly required to climb ladders and use fall protection. The employee is regularly required to use eyes, ears, arms, hands, legs, and feet to safely operate motor powered vehicles.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus while working in safety sensitive environments.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and may be required to wear air purifying respirator. The noise levels in the different work environments are from quiet to very loud.
