An excellent career opportunity is currently available for a Sr R&D Manager in the Honeywell Performance Materials & Technology (PMT) business unit located in Buffalo, NY. In this exciting opportunity in a high growth environment, you will utilize your experience in Engineering to significantly impact and support the PMT business.

This position will lead the Fluorine Products Technical Sales & Service (TS&S) team, partnering with Sales and Marketing to drive rapid execution of R&D driven Sales Pipeline opportunities (SPLs) meeting or exceeding NPI targets. SPLs currently drive over 80% of annual business NPI and are therefore a major component of meeting Business financial commitments. This group is also responsible for providing Sales Support - assisting Sales with prospecting and customer engagement, analyzing the potential impact of competitive offerings and evaluating competitive threat responses, as well providing Technical Service to existing customers - business maintenance via troubleshooting. Effective tracking of SPLs in sfdc is a requirement, along with data analysis and resource optimization in order to maximize productivity. This position has a direct budget of about $3M and 14 FTEs located in the U.S and matrix oversight to another 10 FTEs in China and India. Close collaboration with overseas teams is critical as this position has global oversight of activity prioritization and resource deployment to maximize financial return.

Close coordination with other R&D functions is a must, particularly Applications Development (NPD): TS&S team members are flexibly deployed to help drive NPD projects, and need to fully understand offerings from NPD projects in order to effectively drive commercialization at customers. As the major technical function at the customer interface, the TS&S team is an important source of New Idea generation reflecting needs they identify in the marketplace. In addition to managing an organization of R&D professionals, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of the TS&S laboratory facilities.

MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Material Science or Engineering
  • 1 0+ years' experience of managing an R&D group
  • 10+ years' experience in identifying and valuing unmet needs through VOC/OVOC, industry performance standards, and regulatory drivers
WE VALUE:

  • Experience with establishing material property linkage to end article performance translation
  • Experience in commercializing new offerings from lab to market
  • Good working knowledge of stage-gate process for product development
  • Ability to define and execute on technology roadmaps to drive breakthrough growth
  • Basic understanding of polymer chemistry, materials, mechanical and physical processes
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by influence
  • Experience engaging with business leadership and ability to influence business decisions based on sound technical logic
  • Identifying, screening and qualifying new growth ideas
  • Program management, resource allocation, budgeting
  • Knowledge of the intellectual property management, including working with the legal team to develop and protect a patent estate and defend against competitive patents
  • Experience setting up and managing 3 rd party collaborations (Open Innovation)
  • Domain knowledge in the area of small molecule fluorine chemistry and its applications an advantage
