Job Description:

The Protein Expression and Modification Division invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow.  The project will be part of a basic research program focusing on genetic selections for improved protein folding and identifying chaperones in the model prokaryote Escherichia coli.  The project will focus on application of previously characterized selections and development of novel genetic selections. Research will be undertaken in a highly collaborative and academic environment where publication and presentation of results is expected.
  
Primary responsibilities:


  • The successful applicant will be expected to clone, overexpress and purify proteins and develop assays for their successful production in E. coli expression strains. 


  • Communicate results to a larger audience though conference attendance and departmental seminars.


  • Write and publish articles in peer-reviewed journals.


Required Qualifications:


  • Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology or a related field.


  • Have proven bench skills.


  • Demonstrate through publications experience with microbial genetics, molecular cloning, protein engineering, detection and purification.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong relevant publication record.

  • Have an independent and creative track record with interest in exploration and discovery of novel biological processes.


  • Have demonstrated capacity in performing experiments, analyzing data, performing calculations and drawing conclusions regarding progress and results of work.


  • Be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
