Job Description:

SUMMARY

The Engineering Project Lead is responsible for the oversight and execution of various engineering related projects across the organization. Incumbent will use knowledge and experience with diesel engines and in-depth knowledge of JVS braking technology and products to help implement positive change and drive projects to completion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop full project plans and maintain schedules with key deliverables related to each project.
  • Manage project financials including budget, expenses, and VCM.
  • Primary point of contact for all technical items including project requirements for both internal and external customers.
  • Coordinate essential resources necessary to meet project milestones using the internal tollgate system where applicable.
  • Participate in value stream team activities for the projects necessary to ensure they meet customer requirements and milestones.
  • Oversight for key technical deliverables relative to Design Reviews, Brainstorming, Pugh Charts, FMEA's, DVP&R, requirements documents, failure reports, development incident reports, QFD, etc.
  • Adhere to engineering and corporate standards.
  • Manage engineering change process (DCN) internally and with the customer.
  • Oversee all product validation testing including dyno, endurance, bench, and vehicle level.
  • Develop test plans, instrumentation requirements, and complete test reports.
  • Create, modify, and maintain product drawings.
  • Review and interpret analytical results - FEA, Performance, Hydraulic simulation, etc.
  • Provide product support for warranty, field representation, Quality, and legacy products.
  • Support the Quality and Warranty group on investigations of non-confirming products including root cause determination and implementation of corrective actions (8D process).
  • Support vision and direction for product engineering team.
  • Contribute to innovation process for new technology.
  • Coach and mentor new hires.

Critical Competencies
  • Knowledge about lab test set-up and basic machine shop procedures.
  • General understanding of internal combustion engines.
  • Knowledge on reading drawings.
  • Skills in project management and coordinating complex projects.

Job Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in an Engineering or similar support role, preferably in diesel engine or automotive industry.

Physical Demand and Work Environment:

Jacobs Vehicle Systems is a heavy-duty manufacturing facility. As such, all employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas within the facility.

Given the scope of responsibility and assignment; employees may be exposed to any or all of the following conditions:

Extensive sitting or standing; climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and other substantial movements for up to 8 hours per day, not including potential voluntarily overtime; loud noises; exposure to oils, coolants, fumes, odors and other potential hazardous chemicals and materials. Employees are required to have visual acuity to support the basic functions of the role as defined above.
