Job Description:

ROLE DECRIPTION:

Zoetis Reference Laboratories (ZRL) is currently seeking a full time veterinary clinical microbiologist to oversee the Microbiology and Molecular Services for the national ZRL network of laboratories (multiple US locations). Zoetis Reference lab is a new division of Zoetis Global Diagnostics and currently includes legacy Phoenix, ZN, and Ethos laboratories.

Responsibilities of this role will include oversight of the national Microbiology and Molecular services, including technical oversight over the laboratory technicians, and SOPs in these 2 areas. Some interpretation of microbiology and molecular results as well as consultation with veterinarian clients is also expected.

RESPONSIBILITES:


  • Overseeing the Microbiology and Molecular services Cytopathology Service and ensuring that veterinarian clients reliably receive high quality results as relates to these areas.

  • Assist in development of the microbiology and molecular teams, including recruitment and hiring, periodic performance evaluation, professional development, and engagement in the clinical service.

  • Fostering a positive, collaborative relationship within the microbiology and molecular teams and between those team members ZRL and global diagnostics colleagues

  • Facilitating opportunities for continuing education, mentorship, and participation in laboratory improvement initiatives or other projects, as appropriate

  • Supporting standardization of equipment and processes relevant to the microbiology and molecular services and ensuring that all quality standards are met

  • Identifying and implementing ways to improve the service and/or resolve problems, including the development, validation and publication of new assays and techniques

  • A member of the Global Diagnostic Medical Leadership Team and Liaising between ZRL and others on the leadership teams

  • Assisting in global expansion of ZRL and the development and support of point of care microbiology and molecular applications.

  • Participating in and contributing to the quality assurance program, new test suggestions, and new test validation across ZRL

  • Supervising and assisting in training the laboratory technicians/assistants

  • Participating in continuing education programs for our clients, in the lab or in clinic, or at larger conferences, if desired

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • DVM (or equivalent); Advanced training and background in veterinary microbiology and molecular diagnostic medicine required.

  • Diplomate of the ACVM and/or PhD in clinical veterinary microbiology desired.
