Materials Lab Technician at PPG Industries in Sylmar, California

Job Description:

PPG Aerospace is no hiring a Materials Lab Technician! As the Materials Lab Technician, you will test and qualify various materials for quality control testing, new product qualification, and production support.
Key Responsibilities

• Perform ASTM or analytical tests to assess material performances
• Apply analytical tools to identify process and material failure root cause and propose solutions
• Accurate documentation in the form of quality documents, notebooks with procedures and data, test records, etc
• Accurately perform basic mathematical calculations
• Maintain critical technical equipment per written standards and procedures with excellent laboratory practices
• Provide assistance to Research, Quality, and Manufacturing support functions as needed
• Work well as part of a cross-functional team with strong verbal and written communication at all levels
• Align with Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements at all times
• Perform 5S cleaning and housekeeping duties as required

• High School Diploma or Associate's Degree with 1+ years of relevant industrial experience required.
• Some experience in Aerospace manufacturing, coatings, quality control, or other technical field is preferred.
• Ability to learn and implement new skills quickly and with a desire to improve processes where needed.
• Experience in coatings/materials characterization by FTIR, UV-Vis, DSC, TGA, rheology, tensile testing, hardness, etc.
• Capable of instrument ownership, training, and maintenance
• Ability to independently craft and perform experiments at various scales and develop tests to measure desired response.
• Strong digital literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Organization and statistical analysis skills to record, manage, and present large amounts of data are desirable
• General knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma methodologies
