Primary Function of Position:

The QA Engineering department is responsible for all Engineering Development testing of both systems, surgical instruments and data applications. The primary function of this position is to design, develop, and execute automated test protocols for system functional testing for intricate robotic surgical systems and client-server networked products using black box, gray box, and white box testing techniques.

The ideal candidate for the position of Product Verification Engineer will have proven experience in the Networking, Network Security, product release of software applications, networking implementations and services, with the expertise to evaluate and support.

This position requires an individual with strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with highly technical peers, and the capability to manage work load among changing priorities, alternating between hands on validation, testing, root cause analysis   and troubleshooting.

Roles and Responsibilities:

This position has responsibility of and authority to:

  • Design, develop and implement tests for functional SW of da Vinci system networking and security related products.

  • Development and maintaining of Automation scripts and test fixtures

  • Manage test data and utilize test data management technology.

  • Debug software and perform reviews of automation and application code.

  • Act as a core team member of the software/data dev teams during product definition and design phases enforcing design aspects for test tools and automation needs.

  • Engineer solutions that collect and report test results through various metrics reporting tools.

  • Develop in-depth system and product knowledge.

  • Constantly evaluate the test automation strategy and approach to identify areas of improvement (i.e. test automation frameworks, dynamic data collection methodologies, coding standards, components and object repository methods, etc.)

  • Contribute to design documentation for test protocols, results and reports and complete requirement tracing for all requirements.

  • Assist in analysis of test data, identify non-conformance trends, generate concise executive summaries, and recommend design improvements.

  • Logging and debugging issues within the issue tracking system. 

  • Develop tests at module and system level in Python or Matlab. 

  • Learn the elements of the SW build process to effectively execute, monitor and troubleshoot as necessary.

  • Act as a testing SME for networking and security features to other test teams.

Skill/Job Requirements:

To perform the above responsibilities adequately, the individual must have the following:

Qualifications and Technical Skills:

  • Minimum of 4 to 6 years’ experience in software development and testing.

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an engineering discipline required; Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering preferred.

  • Experience with Networking technologies/protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, DHCP , DNS, Proxy, HTTP, etc.)

  • Good understanding of Security Software implementations and communication (SSL/TLS, HTTPS, PKI, Firewall, etc.)

  • Experience with SQL and testing application interfaces (API’s) and interface robustness testing

  • Strong understanding of networking and security applications (vulnerability scanners, fuzzing applications, port scanning, packet captures, etc.)

  • Experience with networking/remote access including virtual private networks,  and business applications

  • Strong knowledge of Windows & Linux Operating systems and Virtualization

  • Experience with Wireshark, JIRA, Splunk, Nagios and other packet capture and network monitoring application and tools

  • Technical experience and strong command of industry trends and ability to apply those for desired outcomes

  • Automation Development & Scripting skills are a plus (Python, batch, shell, Jenkins, etc.)

  • Experience testing client-server products.

  • Familiarity with scripting language, preferably Python for generation of automated tests.

  • Experience in writing and executing effective test plans and protocol development is required.

  • Experience or familiarity with test automation frameworks is highly desired.

  • Capability of participating in all aspects of Design Control.

  • Experience in a FDA design environment, preferably medical device experience.

  • Troubleshooting mind set; an ability to systematically and effectively break down a system or process into subparts to identify failure mechanisms

Additional competencies or experience:

  • Familiarity with medical device verification and validation, and an understanding of the requirements for regulatory approval.

  • Experience testing hardware systems with integrated software, especially in mechanical or robotic systems.

  • Experience with automated testing tools (using and/or developing).
