Alcoa is looking for an EHS Coordinator for our Alcoa Technical Center (ATC) located in New Kensington, PA. This role provides EHS support for all ATC R&D groups which support Smelting and Casting technologies. We're looking for a person who would assist in holding up Alcoa EHS values and ensuring all employees own responsibility for EHS. Our key activities


  • Collaborate with Corporate EHS as needed for execution of all health and safety activities for the ATC, responding to requests and emergencies when called upon;


  • Develop and deliver Alcoa specific safety training, including the development and implementation of ATC electronic training modules, onboarding and coordination of training for contractors and employees;


  • Track EHS performance and compliance requirements, including with federal, state and corporate health & safety policies, for the entire ATC and provide monthly progress updates to Corporate EHS;


  • Communicate EHS performance effectively to all levels of the organization, leading monthly Lead Team meetings and weekly group meetings where key safety aspects associated with incidents, lessons learned, procedures and/or new requirements are discussed;


  • Lead all aspects of contractor safety process for ATC ensuring compliance as it relates to their qualification, management, and training;


  • Coordinate and support the maturing of EHS SWIs, ensuring the inclusion of critical controls for new technologies;


  • Collaborate with technicians and engineers to aid in the development of solutions to resolve EHS risks associated with existing and/or new processes/procedures;


  • Participate in the formulation, implementation and enforcement of location EHS policies. Also, update ATC EHS rules books and safety programs based on new processes and updated regulations;


  • Participate as a member of ATC's Fatality Prevention Team;


  • Lead and coordinate completion of EHS ASATs and control verification processes in conjunction with subject matter specialists;


  • Track progress of EHS items using internal systems, corrective / preventative actions, and program improvements. Ensure systems are working within the departments;


  • Manage incident investigations, reporting, and application of preventative corrective actions;


  • Ensure chemical inventory management system is implemented and understood across all groups. Also, serve as the primary point of contact for waste accumulation at ATC;


  • Provide leadership, direction, and support for industrial hygiene programs, including the planning and execution of IH sampling for new and existing processes;


  • Perform job observations regularly to determine risks, potential hazards, and efficiency of hazard control measures;


  • Participate in and lead PEHSRs (i.e. Project Safety Reviews) within different workgroups.

Basic qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in safety or related science field;


  • 3+ years of experience;


  • Provide high level of business and personal integrity;


  • Ability to demonstrate strong team dynamics by successfully interfacing and working with a diverse team of technicians, engineers, scientists, supervisors, and managers;


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;


  • Capable of using Microsoft suite of programs;


  • Ability to adapt to new and evolving EHS requirements and regulations established by Alcoa /or other critical agencies.


Preferred qualifications:


  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP);


  • Objective approach to investigating safety concerns and reporting;


  • Aptitude to train and mentor others in the field of EHS;


  • Ability to deliver quality performance results in a timely fashion and complete objectives with independence;


  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable Alcoa E,H,S, Occ Med protocols.
