The CIGNA Tax Department is seeking a staff accountant for a Tax Accounting Senior Analyst (State Income Tax) role that will directly support its healthcare, insurance, and domestic operations. The Tax Department is known throughout the company for its technical innovation and dynamic structure. The Tax Accounting Senior Analyst will not only develop skills within their own job specific technical competencies but will also gain experience across the tax department in various other areas of insurance and corporate taxation.

Major Duties


  • Responsible for state income tax compliance for assigned companies/divisions including the preparation of state income tax returns and quarterly estimated payments.

  • Assists in quarterly state provision calculations.

  • Utilizes independent judgment and discretion while working on tax research and special projects.

  • Develops strong working relationships with team members and internal accounting contacts.

  • Acts as a resource on special projects for assigned companies/divisions including support and participation in tax planning initiatives.

  • Responds to tax notices from various state and local taxing authorities.

  • Actively contributes to helping implement process improvements as well as building a high performance culture and a positive work environment.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Accounting

  • 0-2+ years experience - open to recent college graduates, internship experience preferred

  • Must be able to demonstrate competencies with core accounting & taxation concepts and be able to work in a team environment. Income tax compliance (state), Accounting, ASC 740 knowledge is a plus.

  • Ability to learn a variety of software applications, including tax compliance & accounting. Proficiency in Microsoft applications is a must.

  • Masters in Taxation or CPA, a plus

  • Public Accounting firm or Big 4, a plus

  • Flexible office/work from home arrangement

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
