Job Description:

Core Purpose:

The Co-Op Student would help us synthesis materials (depending on their specialty we have a few possible projects) that would improve the sustainability of our formulations. Finding sustainable alternatives is typically not trivial, Co-Op will have to learn about green chemistry principles and the key structure property function relationships of key components in our formulations. Work done by the Co-Op will have a direct impact on our ability to meet our customers need – both from a performance and sustainability perspective.

In this role, you will:

Depending on the specialty of the Co-Op (organic synthesis, polymer synthesis, or particle synthesis) we will focus on working on either slurry components, cleans chemistry components, or CMP pad material components. This role will be involved in the following aspects overall:

• Learn CMP (chemical and mechanical planarization) basic principles

• Learn new synthesis methods, particularly focused around green chemistry principles

• Apply their chemical knowledge to help create new materials through chemical synthesis, including developing rational designs of experiments

• Present and discuss their results within the team

Success is defined the learning of how new methods for green chemistry and, ideally, new materials provide a sustainable future for our products. An excellent outcome would be able to test this new materials directly in a CMP process (e.g., polishing experiment in a real cleanroom environment with customer similar wafers).

You're a good fit if you have:

We need a Masters candidate with a background in organic chemistry, synthetic polymer chemistry, or particle synthesis. We will provide basic training and a detailed background of the project. The main expected traits include high degree of motivation to do fundamental science at the cutting edge by being able to perform quality experiments and provide scientific input along the way.
