Job Summary:

The Project Engineer provides central technical design and integration engineering support for power, propulsion, and maneuvering systems for U.S. government and military vessels. Duties of this position include working with the customer to define the conceptual design, implementation of design and testing of products on the vessel, and lifecycle change integration and maintenance support. The position will work closely with internal and external engineering/ project management teams to ensure all project milestones are achieved while providing technical oversight of design from cradle to grave.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide central integration engineering support for DMS supported products and systems / Wärtsilä product designs to customers.
  • Participate in customer / stakeholder negotiations and recurring meetings when needed and maintain good customer / stakeholder relationships.
  • Identify, mitigate, monitor, and report risks either technical or project schedule related and communicate back to both internal and external customers
  • Identify and incorporate lessons learned by monitoring reliability/ quality topics that arise during the life of the project and communicating action plans for resolution back to internal and external customers
  • Develop and deliver content for contract requirement deliverables (CDRLs) associated with the project.
  • Approve all technical products and work instructions required to meet contract requirements and to meet project targets. This includes the ability to make informed decisions on the deckplate while putting the interest of the company first.
  • Initiate and build relationships with Wartsila product lines to identify key personnel support for responsible project
  • Identify and apply strategic product based engineering analysis / design tools to increase DMS product knowledge for support of the project
  • Assist in Technical Training, including product training and product awareness for internal DMS project teams.
  • Maintain compliance with all ISO standards (9001 / 14001 / 18001)

Skills:

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong experience with personal computers and related software applications (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in reviewing procedures.
  • Ability to read technical specifications, drawings, and generate drawings.
  • Experience in Technical Writing.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) rules preferred.

Requirements:

  • Ability to climb shipboard ladders / board MSC, Navy Vessels, and other vessels.
  • Ability to go to the field for specific tasking requiring technical oversight or engagement.
  • Must be able, and willing, to travel within Continental U.S. and Worldwide, with notice.
  • Must possess a valid US Passport.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DOD clearance

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Naval Architecture or equivalent required
  • Six (6) or more years of industry experience with focus on: Ship systems, Propulsion systems and Shaft-line Equipment
  • Shipboard experience with shaft line or other propulsion equipment preferred

Salary is Dependent on Qualification (DOQ). Candidates within the Louisiana and Alabama areas are highly preferred.
