POSITION OBJECTIVE

As a Controls and Automation Engineer, you will have overall accountability for the functionality and performance of control projects that are assigned. You will be responsible for accepting assigning work, providing support and guidance to Engineering team members, and ensuring the services and deliverables provided by their discipline will meet PEC standards. The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and monitoring PLC automation systems. This person is a self-starter and proactively manages assignments so that deliverables are completed in accordance with the approved budget and established milestones.

POSITION KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist Control Technicians via phone or on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting tasks.
  • As subject matter expert, Diagnose electrical control systems, PLC programs, and/or technical problems and determine proper solutions.
  • Robotics Experience is a plus, Fanuc, UR Robots, and Others.
  • Follow all company's safety and operational procedures and protocols.
  • Cooperate with the technical team and share information across the organization.
  • Comprehend customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Build positive relationships with customers and co-workers.
  • Engineer OEM Control Systems including Solidworks Electrical Drawings, and PLC programming and assist technicians and other support staff in the planning, scheduling, design, and execution of projects.
  • Monitor and maintain department productivity and ensure PEC Engineering and quality standards are met.
  • Develop and/or maintain technical and administrative processes, tools, and guidelines pertaining to Instrumentation & Controls.
  • Fluent knowledge of Instrumentation engineering and workflow(s), as well as interdisciplinary interaction required to successfully complete projects.
  • Understanding and ownership of electrical power systems, hazardous energy control procedures, and electrical.
  • Work independently under limited supervision (self-management).
  • Produce timely and detailed service reports.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline preferred.
  • 5+ years' control system design, PLC logic and programming, electrical and automation troubleshooting, and hardware application experience in a manufacturing, industrial, technical, military, or related environment required.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience.
  • Experience with basic electrical systems (e.g., starters, fuses, contacts, relays).
  • Experience with electrical systems (installation, frequency drive, troubleshooting).
  • Experience with electronics (e.g., level probes, flow meters, drives/VFDs, etc.).
  • Experience with PLC (e.g., industrial maintenance, computer control systems, etc.).
  • Experience with product manuals (e.g., reading and applying knowledge to make repairs).
  • Experience with schematics (e.g., electrical blueprints with switches, starters, maps, relays).
  • Experience with troubleshooting (e.g., diagnostics, problem-solving, etc.).
  • Control systems experience with the following VFDs, Sensors, Motor starters/contactors, Overload circuits, Power distribution, and Pneumatics.
  • PLC knowledge and experience with the following: Allen Bradley RSlinx, Studio5000 or Logix5000, Logix500, Factory TalkView ME, and or SE versions.
  • Other major PLC manufacturer experience is a plus.
