Job Description:


The Nurse Manager - Adult Psych Department -  is responsible for the coordination of the overall operations of an assigned unit(s) to include the provision of resources and an environment that facilitates optimal, cost efficient patient care delivery. This position defines and monitors the standards of patient care and nursing practice, ensures availability and appropriate utilization of needed human and material resources, supports collaboration between nursing, physicians, and other disciplines to achieve desired patient outcomes. Major decisions are subject to the review and approval of the Clinical Director. This position requires extensive internal and external contacts. Internal contacts are with all levels of staff and management. External contacts include physicians, physician office staff, outside health care providers and organizations, vendors, and management from other health care facilities and agencies.


– Provides leadership and operational direction for department
∙ Assists with the development and implementation of department strategic plans and objectives which are aligned with organizational mission, vision, and objectives
∙ Develops and implements operational plans aligned with the department objectives
∙ Interprets department and organizational philosophy and assists Clinical Director in development of department objectives
∙ Assures the department has the appropriate number and mix of staff in order to meet short- and/or long-term care, treatment and service needs of patients served
∙ Assists the Director in budget development, implementation, and evaluation
∙ Allocates or adjusts resources in accordance with priorities, volumes, and demands; and sets guidelines for adjustments
– Assures quality patient care at department level
∙ Investigates and resolves all complaints and uses chain of command as indicated
∙ Manages and assists to establish processes and policy that optimize patient outcomes
– Develops, manages and measures efficient operations
∙ Manage performance improvement initiatives, and monitors patterns and trends and responds to findings
∙ Implements and monitors fiscal controls and controls inventory
∙ Communicates with department staff, other departments, and the organization concerning department operations and performance
– Develops and manages teams and individuals
∙ Plans for staff development, education, and advancements; and encourages continuing education, learning, and in-services for all staff
∙ Supervises staff providing direction and guidance and administers management functions within the provisions of MultiCare policies and standards and local, state, and federal regulations and standards
∙ Assists Clinical Director to assures processes are in place to ensure staff qualifications are consistent with job responsibilities
∙ Assures employee evaluations are completed on time and using appropriate development strategies
– Adheres to MHS Attendance and Punctuality Policy and Procedure standards. Maintains reliable attendance

- Minimum of a bachelor's degree or 4 yrs. experience in lieu of degree will be considered
- Master’s degree preferred
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington
- 5 years of clinical experience in professional or technical role/function
- 3 years of experience in a supervisory or lead capacity
- Consideration may be given to internal candidates not meeting the minimum qualifications
