Location: new orleans, Louisiana
Position is contingent upon successful completion of drug screening, background check, and required security clearance. Candidate must be eligible for work in the United States with appropriate identification documentation.
The MEPS Contract Guidance Counselor purpose is to assist the LAARNG MEPS Guidance Counselors at New Orleans MEPS. Duties include but not limited to:
Notify the Recruiter of the results of medical screenings and aptitude tests on all preprocessed applicants.
Review with applicant the DD1966 series form (Record of Military in- processing) and supporting documents for errors or missing data and make corrections as needed.
Verify applicant's eligibility for enlistment.
Return unqualified applicants to the point from which departed and notify Recruiting and Retention Noncommissioned Officer (RRNCO) that the applicants are back and that the enlistment packet is being returned.
Access REQUEST system or DA Pam 351-4 (Army Formal Schools Catalog) to counsel applicant about MOS options.
Verify successful course completion with official school transcripts when there is a specific education requirement (DA PAM 611-21) for entry into the selected MOS.
Question applicants to be sure they understand their enlistment commitments.
Counsel applicants that the Army does not condone the use of marijuana, harmful and habit forming chemicals or drugs. Such use is incompatible with military service and in-service use may be punished under the UCMJ or State military code (as applicable).
Inform applicants that the Army expects them to maintain height and weight standards or body composition and a level of physical fitness enabling them to pass the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT).
Reproduce all verification documents (not already reproduced) for inclusion in enlistment packets.
Review the applicant's packet for accuracy, after the applicant has been processed and the preparation of the DD Form 4 series (Enlistment/ Reenlistment Document) with annexes is complete then forward to Operations Section at MEPS for swearing in.
Coordinate directly with ARNG Training Liaison NCOs at TRADOC installations and state IADT coordinators to correct administrative and contractual problems experienced by Soldiers during IADT.
Use the USMIRS Application System to schedule applicants for enlistment and shippers. Use the Daily Pad to detect names and discrepancies to ensure applicants' basis for information is correct and to schedule people for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) and other Special Testing.
Secure and safeguard all government property, including documents that are provided or created by the RRC. All resources utilized are for "Official Use Only", and will remain government property on termination of contract.
Additional Requirements and Notes:
Required Experience: Knowledge of the Louisiana Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Program preferred. Preference given for experience as a ARNG Recruiter or MEPS GC experience. College preferred. Must have excellent personal computer skills in all Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
