Position Purpose: The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs laboratory analytical procedures on blood and body fluids. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for the technical accuracy, instrument operation, quality control, and result reporting per established policies and procedures. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is accountable to ensure timely and accurate results are reported to the appropriate hospital staff and physicians in a courteous and professional manner. Some support tasks will be required to maintain laboratory operations and may include specimen collection, sample handling, information system procedures, customer support, and common clerical duties. Scheduling of hours may be changed, as company deems necessary. Nature and Scope: The Clinical Laboratory is a 24-hour/7-days a week operation, providing laboratory services to an inpatient and outpatient population of all ages. The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality and timely laboratory tests for a diverse patient population through appropriate organization of workload, completion of quality control procedures, proper specimen identification, and ensuring proper instrument/equipment operational status. Test results must be clearly reported to nursing and/or medical staff through direct communication or result entry by computer. The incumbent must consider the age of the patient when performing testing and releasing results. Must be able to communicate with a diverse patient population and their family when performing special procedures. Providing exceptional customer service is expected at all times. The incumbent reports results in the Laboratory Information System and keeps nursing personnel informed to assist in and expedite patient care. The incumbent must be knowledgeable of and observe all safety requirements in a laboratory and hospital setting. Comprehensive knowledge must be maintained for all procedures that are required to be performed. Competency in work related skills must be demonstrated annually. Minimum Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred Education: Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Appropriate education to obtain and maintain Clinical Lab Scientist licensure in the State of Nevada based on licensure criteria. Experience: Recent general clinical laboratory experience is preferred. License(s): Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Specialist license within 7 months from date of hire is required. General Supervisor licensure is also acceptable and will supersede the Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Specialist licensure.
