PROJECT ENGINEER – Sweetwater, TX
 
Georgia-Pacific in Sweetwater, TX is seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Engineer for a Gypsum facility. The Project Engineer creates value by leading project teams in the development and implementation of projects at the site. The selected individual will provide technical support and leadership to maintenance and operations teams.  This will be accomplished through creative insight, innovation, disciplined problem solving, personal accountability, economic decision making, and critical thinking. A Day In The Life Typically Includes:


  • Execute capital projects and assist maintenance with expense projects as needed

  • Develop and own the project budget or Venture Summary process

  • Develop project scope with input from reliability engineer, production, and maintenance staff

  • Review contractor deliverables, quality and resolve technical issues during scope development, design, and construction

  • Coordinate the use of contractors in compliance with all GP Contractor Guidelines

  • Understanding and application of Georgia-Pacific’s Market Based Management (MBM®) to influence and lead project teams to implement strategic capital initiatives.

  • Ensure projects are executed in legal, safe, and environmentally responsible manner

  • Monitor systems to measure and control project progress against schedule and cost

  • Familiarity with performance measures and maintenance requirements of equipment

  • Participate as a member of the Plant Leadership Team with the goal of maximizing plant performance

  • Development of projects from conceptional state to completion

  • Occasional travel to other GP sites to gain best practices on project implementation

  • Use critical, economic, and analytical thinking skills to foresee technical issues and report to Senior Management

 
What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering


  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience leading, directing, and tracking progress of projects with 2 years of experience

  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

  • Must be willing to work occasional nights and weekends as the business requires

  • Must be willing and able to travel on occasion (i.e. up to 20% travel as the business requires)

 
What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Project management experience in manufacturing

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in planning and scheduling plant outages

  • Experience working within a stage-gated project management process

  • Experience with practical application of PSM requirements, including Management of Change, and Pre-Startup Safety Review

  • Experience and proficiency using AutoCAD Suite

  • Leadership experience to include interaction and accountability with contractors
