Duties & Responsibilities The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University seeks an enthusiastic individual to work as a Research Assistant in the Bioinspired Therapeutics & Diagnostics platform. The successful candidate will significantly contribute to a research program involving the use of cell culture and microfluidic in vitro models to support our efforts in novel drug discovery and antibody delivery across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). The successful candidate will be responsible for the optimization and execution of microfluidic BBB-on-Chip primary cell culture and the development and validation of various in-vitro and cell-based assays, including, but not limited to cell-based qPCR/TaqMan, ELISA, westerns, enzymatic assays, imaging, and flow cytometry. Previous experience with mammalian cell culture is a must, while previous knowledge and/or experience with endothelial in vitro or in vivo models, as well as endothelial development and IPS technology, is a plus. The candidate will be expected to work independently under the supervision of staff and faculty to design experiments, learn new skills, troubleshoot, and to contribute intellectually to the project. In addition, the candidate is expected to order supplies, perform support activities and lab maintenance, and function in a team-oriented environment with other scientists and staff at the Institute as well as external collaborators. The candidate will participate in the preparation of manuscripts and patent applications. Under the supervision of staff, the candidate will present data and conclusions at meetings within the Wyss Institute.

Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or related field. At least two years of experience involving aseptic mammalian cell culture and molecular and cell biology techniques, such as ELISA, PCR, microscopy, PCR, Western blots, Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) or related experience. Advanced degree may count towards years of experience. Additional Qualifications Experience with primary or iPSC-derived cells, including brain endothelium. Experience with cell culture in microfluidic device is a plus; experience with antibody research is a plus. Ability to work well independently and to collaborate with a multidisciplinary group is essential. The candidate should be proficient with personal computers and applicable software packages (Microsoft Office). Good written and oral communication skills are essential. The candidate should be highly motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and able to take initiative.
