A Brief Summary of This Position
The System Architect is responsible for the architectural design, development, and deployment of the enterprise's overall systems. Daily infrastructure maintenance and management of network resources including servers, storage, virtualization. Manage medium to large scale projects from conception to completion including project timelines. Defines system solutions based on user/client needs, cost, and required integration with existing applications, systems or platforms. Develops and socializes architecture strategies, standards and guidelines. Researches, identifies, selects, and tests technology products required for solution delivery.
This role includes difficult work on highly technical and involved projects which can present new and changing problems. This senior level role requires outstanding judgement, initiative and ingenuity, as well as requiring the incumbent to work both independently and as part of a team toward department and company objectives. The individual may need to devise methods and/or procedure to meet unusual conditions, and there is a responsibility to make original contributions in order to solve complex problems. Finally the incumbent may need to mentor and support lesser skilled team members.
The System Architect reports to the Senior Director of Innovation & Intellectual Property who in turn reports to the Vice President Product Development. Within the current organizational structure, the Vice President Product Development reports directly to the Group President of Irrigation & Tubing. The System Architect does not have any direct or indirect subordinates. The job level held is that of individual contributor and the function is within Information Technology.
Important Details about the Role
A System Architect is a professional role within information and communication technology that defines the architecture of computer systems composed of both software and hardware in order to fulfill certain company requirements. Systems Architects divide large and complex systems into manageable subsystems that can be handled by individual engineers or IT professionals.
Additional duties include understanding Marketing and customer requirements as well as current technological and system capabilities so as to provide system construction recommendations with the right balance of features, performance and cost. The incumbent will be required to develop new systems as well as make significant changes to current systems. Finally the incumbent shall be required to explain often-complex concepts to different audiences, including non-technical individuals so as to gain the support needed to complete the project.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in an office setting; however, incumbent may be required to go into the production or shipping/receiving areas. While visiting the manufacturing areas of the plant, use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required at all times. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and attend meetings. There is no overnight travel required for this position. 95% of the tasks are sedentary tasks. The employee is constantly required to use hands and fingers to type and design. Reaching hands and arms above shoulder height while working in the office may be required. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office or plant. There are areas of the plant that cannot be accessed by elevator and the employee may need to occasionally visit those locations. The employee may have to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, but this is a rare requirement of this position. A dolly is available for transportation of heavier items. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Due to the visual requirements of this position, employee must demonstrate acceptable vision. The determination of acceptable vision will be made by the Safety Department on an individual basis.
