Job Description:
Application Operations Manager

The Application Operations Manager is responsible for the management of operations, security, availability and maintenance of enterprise applications. The Applications Operations Manager establishes and maintains consistent and comprehensive processes, applying ITIL standards for incident, problem and change management, service level management, and vendor utilization strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:
  • Guides and manages the work of the applications operations team
  • Manages the operations process embracing design, planning, control, performance improvement, and operations strategy.
  • Ensures a stable and secure operational environment for digital applications to increase system availability, reliability and scalability through the management of outsourced and insourced service providers.
  • Ensures compliance to ITIL standards for Incident, Problem and Change Management as implemented.
  • Provides support and service to all back office systems and applications
  • Researches and analyzes programming systems including encoding, testing, debugging, and installing to support an organization's application systems.
  • Provides recommendations for improving processes and procedures internally to the IT operations team and to the business groups.
  • Continually implements process improvements within the IT Operations team to ensure that issues do not reoccur.
  • Assists in gathering data and defining user requirements for additional functionality of systems
  • Writes documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, and corrections.
  • Consults with users to identify current operating procedures and to clarify program objectives.
  • Builds custom reports for internal customers
  • Secures systems by controlling application access
  • Responsible for communication to business users, managers, and IT Peers on problems within the System and applications. Provides updates on status and progress toward resolution
  • Maintains performance of system by working closely with other teams
  • Resolves issues through troubleshooting
  • Other duties as assigned

Education:
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field;; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

Experience/Skills Needed:
  • 3 years' experience in IT
  • 3+ years' experience supporting applications preferred
  • 1-3 years' management of supervisory experience preferred
  • SQL, SQL Server Reporting Services experience
  • Experience in producing functional requirements materials for information technology systems
  • Experience translating functional business requirements to technical specifications (preferably in the information technology)
  • Experience developing functional and systems requirements from materials provided by functional subject matter experts
  • Experience working with developers to develop technical requirement from functional requirements
  • Experience testing applications
  • Demonstrated writing skills in developing requirements elicitation plans, user acceptance testing plans, and materials, etc.
  • Experience in configuration of enterprise monitoring systems.
  • Firm understanding of enterprise applications
  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and execute on assigned deliverables
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and business processes
  • Proven history of detail-oriented execution and commitment to customer satisfaction
  • Must possess strong communication skills (both verbal and written) with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees

Computer Skills:
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and G-suite desktop applications
