The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Process Safety Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:


  • Providing process safety support to all Cottage Grove departments regulated by 3M and OSHA Process Safety Management requirements.

  • Participating and/or leading portions of EHS self-assessments and/or audits and work with internal stakeholders and technical resources on control solutions

  • Using established tools for inspection, analysis, identification and prioritization of potential hazards area.

  • Leading and/or assisting with incident investigations that are related to PSM

  • Supporting major capital projects, in design consulting, technical quality assurance and start-up assistance.

  • Supporting site wide EHS programs, systems, and processes

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Four (4) years experience in a private, public, government or military environment using one or more of the following process safety management techniques: Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA), Process Hazard Assessment (PHA), Layers of Protection (LOPA), RAP (Risk Assessment & Prioritization) and RAM (Risk Assessment for Machines).

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:


  • Possess a bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering and/or a master’s degree in Safety or an engineering-related field from an accredited institution

  • Possess one or more of the following certifications: Professional Engineer (PE); Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals or CCPS Process Safety Professional Certification (CCPSC).

  • Experience leading EHS incident investigations, and self-assessments / audits

  • Experience supporting major capital projects

  • Experience supporting manufacturing site wide EHS programs, systems, and processes

Travel: May include up to 5% domestic

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized
