Summary -

This position is responsible for the planning, execution, monitoring and management of the Advanced Recognition Systems Solutions Engineering team.   These duties require leadership of multiple-discipline teams for opportunities within North America, as well as supporting international efforts. This position works closely with Sales Management to ensure the organization is effectively able to drive and support Sales.

Leads a team of biometric solutions engineers and is responsible for the technical development of an architecture and biometric and identiy management solution that meets the client’s needs and budget constraints. Sr. Manager of Solutions Engineering will become well versed in all of NECAM ARS’ product portfolio, their funcatoins and features. The candidate is also responsible for developing key competitive differentiators and value propositions that will lead to competitive awards and selections. The candidate will also lead his/her team in upgrade strategies for existing NECAM ARS client. Target markets include national and international public safety and law enforcement, Federal and enterprise clients for digital transformtaion and customer experience projects..  Assists the sales team with the development of win themes, ensures such win themes are captured in the design and architecture, and further assists the proposal team to effectively document the design and win themes in proposals. Ensures post-sale requirements are well defined and properly transitioned at the end of the sales cycle.  Manages the technical response process to Requests for Proposals and other competitive tenders. Manages the process of responding to multiple presales projects in parallel.

Provides customer facing presales presentations and architecture overview to executive level customer staff.  Acts as an internal and external customer technical advocate ensuring timely responses to customer requests, issues, and concerns as it relates to project activities, sales, proposals, and/or marketing support.  As a senior level team member integrates technical skills and sales techniques to successfully introduce new products and services or to revise existing product lines or services to customers.  Understands and masters the features and benefits of our biometric and identity management products and customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities -

30% Leads a team of biometric Solutions Engineers in the analysis, design, presentation and pre-sales support for the delivery of software, hardware and related services for our product offering.  Directly influences the positive outcome of sales opportunities.

30% Provide specific platform/solution/technology/product consulting, technical and expert sales support for major account and partner opportunities (i.e. technical consulting, upper level management presentations, etc.). Knows how to get technical information and ability to demonstrate strong understanding of NEC identity management platform and Global Biometric Product offerings from technical and competitive perspective. Participates in customer and partner meetings to discuss our architecture, design, pricing and competitive advantages on account and prospect opportunities. Develops good working relationship with partners, consultants, customers at technical level. Use expert knowledge to understand customer business requirements, translate them into technical requirements and map these to NEC’s differentiated value proposition. Have in depth understanding of how our products are set up and deployed.

20% Performs onsite and remote technology demonstrations, and sales presentations in the EBC, at a Customer’s site or via WebEx as requested; in which Leading Practices, Current and Future State Assessments, Architecture Vision, Migration approaches and Knowledge Transfer are all carefully considered and presented leading to capture of the opportunity.

Sales personnel, Engineering Teams and Product Management personnel in support of sales of the NEC product lines. Participates in requirements gathering for creation of Scope of Work and Technical Requirements Documentation. Responds to the technical and/or product related portions of RFPs and other Customer/Consultant Questionnaires.

20% Provide support to sales for RFI/RFP/RFB technical responses, including system design documents, quotations, and presentations.


  • Must be a US Citizen to be able to obtain US Federal clearances or background investigation (DHS or DOD); preferred if held the previous US federal clearance.

  • Masters in Engineering/Computer Science and experience in cloud and platform design, architecture development and sales support experience.

  • Excels at SaaS and platform solutions development.

  • Strong management and talent recognition and growth skills.

  • Strong leadership skills with personal traits and technical expertise to offer varying solutions and architecture in sales of platforms and identity management solutions

  • Strong understanding of biometric technologies or a closely related computer science discipline that enables the individual to rapidly learn biometrics.  

  • Strong focus on facial, fingerprint, iris, palm, and latent biometrics, along with fiber optic sensing, cloud implementations, and body sensing.  

  • Highly functional and strong comfort level in front of customers.  Must be capable of interacting with customers and explaining technical details of various solutions to non-technical users.

  • Visionary capable of creating a compelling architecture and design.

  • Interest and ability to rapidly demonstrate and trouble shoot technologies.  Software development abilities preferred.

  • Must have at least 12 to 15 years of direct, demonstrable information technology and preferably biometrics experience in solutions engineering and management capabilities in both government and enterprise markets; preference will be given to those with intimate knowledge to large-scale, cloud and on premises programs and identity management sales.

  • Preference will be given to those with a wide network of stakeholders particularly within the integrators and solutions partners.

  • Must be comfortable with and willing to discuss NIST biometric technology vendor reports with teammates and customers. 

  • Must have knowledge and confidence to demonstrate and trouble shoot technology solutions with customers and at tradeshows. 

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Positive attitude with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Prerequisites -


Masters degree (B. A.) from four-year College or University in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Accounting, or equivalent.


Twelve to fifteen years directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.

Certifications, Licenses, etc:

None required.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills -

Language Skills:

Excellent communication skills; fluent in English.  Able to clearly and concisely explain complex situations to customers and project staff.

Reasoning Skills:

Must be able to effectively analyze and troubleshoot complex problems using logic and methodical reasoning.

Computer and/or Technical Skills:

Expert with Microsoft suite of products and related tools.

Travel as required; infrequently and occurring approximately 5% of the time.

This position requires direct leadership and supervision of staff; prior management experience is required.
