Job Summary:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Accounting department. This includes payroll processing, cash receipts, bank reconciliations, grant reporting, and accounts payable batch review.
Essential Functions:
Manage and supervise the Admin Accounting staff including coaching, team building, retention, scheduling, training, and hiring.Oversee all functions of the Accounting department including accounts receivable, payroll, accounts payable, general ledger accounting, and bank reconciliations.Ensure the protection of all Tribal financial assets.Implement departmental objectives and operational goals.Direct the monthly close process, ensuring timely posting and control of accounting activities.Establish internal controls and processes to maintain the integrity of general ledger accounts and accounting software.Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting activities.Analyze financial reports monthly and investigate variances.Ensure clean and timely year-end audits.Manage grant reporting and compliance.Uphold policies and communicate operational best practices to managers.Manage relationships between accounting and program managers effectively.Anticipate problems and proactively find solutions.Ensure compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies, and TERO ordinance.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Physical Demands: Sedentary work, involving up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.Hazards: Standard office environment without significant exposure to adverse conditions.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for education.Experience: Five years of progressive experience in various aspects of accounting.License/Certification: Valid Alaska State drivers license or a Memorandum of Understanding in lieu of a drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with cultural diversities.
Special Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to multitask, work independently, and meet deadlines.Must work well in a team-oriented environment that promotes job sharing and training.
Travel Required:
Local, In-State, and Out-of-State.
Equipment and Tools Used:
Computer, copier, fax machine, scanner, and other standard office equipment.
