The Microbiologist 1 position is an entry level, laboratory based position whose major purpose is to support the North Haven laboratory. To prepare all media that is needed for testing, to keep the laboratory stocked with supplies, to keep all dishware cleaned in a timely fashion and to sterilize all instrumentation and attire used in laboratory. The Microbiologist 1 will also conduct various testing such as direct product testing and environmental monitoring. The North Haven Laboratory Services Department located in North Haven CT directly services manufacturing locations worldwide. The Microbiologist I works both individually and as part of a team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOP's) and gain certification through on the job training from team leader.
  • To prepare various types of media for laboratory usage.
  • Perform washroom duties, which entail emptying the contents of glassware, blenders, etc. of contents and to wash them via the laboratory dishwasher.
  • Improve SOP's by making suggestions and recommendations as appropriate.
  • Once certified, test products and waters for endotoxin levels, TOC levels and microbial growth, perform indicator testing, environmental monitoring and compressed air testing, bioburden testing, perform microbial identification for positive test results, and sterility testing.
  • Fill in on daily rotations when Laboratory Technicians and Microbiologist I's are absent or need assistance.
  • Document gauge readings and environmental trend reviews for manufacturing areas and testing rooms within the laboratory.
  • Perform microbial identification for positive test results.
  • Utilize the depyrogenating oven, autoclaves, and other equipment in the laboratory for instrument, glassware, gown, media, and microbiological trash sterilization.
  • Prepare reports for the North Haven Campus monthly environmental testing.
  • Perform regular laboratory maintenance and monitoring (water bath, disinfectants, ordering, incubators, sterility suites, etc.)
  • Schedule and perform monthly, quarterly, and annual testing (Gowning water, HEPA, Lab / Safety audit, etc.).
  • Provide assistance to the Supervisor and other Quality Analysts with department testing and/or paperwork.

    • Bachelors degree required

    • 0 years of experience required

    College biology courses/laboratory.

    Aseptic Technique, Comfort with using repeater and mechanical pipetters
